When the M.E.N first revealed the saga last February, director of Real Estate Simon Gallanders said he believed the developer had put forward a 'fantastic' scheme but that the current situation was 'pretty bleak'.
The two options for Real Estate were; come up with a new design that retained the cottages, or apply for permission to demolish a listed building.The developer said that while they value 'the heritage element of the area', retaining the spot-listed buildings as part of the new development would make it financially unviable.
