Coronavirus forces prisoners 'to poo into plastic bags' as killer bug spreads to jails

Prisoners have claimed they were forced to poo into plastic bags and urinate into bottles as staff at HMP Coldingley struggle to cope with the prisoners' toilet needs on lockdown.

The Surrey jail, which houses nearly 300 prisoners is struggling to deal with coronavirus with already limited hygiene facilities coming under more pressure.

Inmates were placed on lockdown after coronavirus spread in 29 prisons across the UK. With no toilets or sinks available to 279 prisoners in their cells, inmates said they were forced to share toilets and sinks with dozens of others prisoners.

Statements given by inmates at the prison were read on BBC Four earlier today, with one claiming to have needed to poo into a bag.
