Boris Johnson will chair a meeting of the government's emergency committee Cobra today (Monday) after a weekend which saw the confirmed number of cases of coronavirus in the UK climb to 36.
Senior ministers and health advisers will be told the virus presents a "significant challenge" for the UK. The first case in Scotland is a Tayside resident who recently travelled from Italy, which has been badly affected, with a cluster of cases.
Health Secretary Matt Hancock said it was "inevitable" the potentially deadly virus would continue to spread. He said he would not rule out following China's lead and shutting down entire cities in the UK if the outbreak escalates.
