Charity predicts spike in number of people seeking help for mortgage arrears next year

New data has revealed that growing numbers of people are seeking advice on mortgage arrears from the Citizens Advice network.

Between July and September this year, the network provided more than 600 pieces of advice in relation to mortgage arrears. As a proportion of all advice, these queries increased by 38 per cent between this period and the same period in 2020/21.

Citizens Advice Scotland fears that demand for this type of advice could grow in 2022 now that Covid-19 protection measures such as furlough and mortgage payment holidays have come to an end, combined with the cost of living increases through rising inflation and soaring energy prices.
