Special honours are given to people who make outstanding contributions to their community and the country, with the New Year Honours list acknowledging 1,278 people in the UK this year.
This year, the list recognises many Scots who worked on the front line of the coronavirus pandemic, as well as military personnel, politicians and Olympic athletes.
Dr Gregor Smith, the Scottish Government 's chief medical advisor for the majority of the coronavirus pandemic was amongst those on the list and said the role has been a "privilege and a pleasure" and that he was "surprised and honoured" about being made a Knight Bachelor.
