Championship and League One clubs set for crunch RFL meeting to discuss options for 2020 campaign

Mark Sawyer admits Championship clubs have to consider “waving the white flag” on the 2020 season - but understands the clamour to retain promotion if possible.

The Dewsbury Rams chairman - also chief executive of Bradford Bulls having been granted dispensation by the RFL - will be part of a conference call with his Championship and League One peers on  Wednesday.

The prospect of voiding the 2020 season is likely to be raised, with some clubs believing that playing behind closed doors would be financially unfeasible outside Super League.

But several others are desperate to ensure that promotion remains in some form this year, even if relegation from the top flight is scrapped.
