A British Airways crew boss died of coronavirus yesterday while being treated at St Thomas’ Hospital in London – the same hospital Prime Minister Boris Johnson is recovering in.
The airline’s cabin service director Ian Johnson had been on a ventilator at the London hospital for 10 days, The Sun reports.
He had been in the care of devoted NHS nurses at the same time Boris Johnson was admitted to hospital on Sunday evening. The much-loved worker, known by friends as Shirley, had flown from London to Nashville, Tennessee in the US, with BA just three weeks ago.
After staying overnight, he jetted back to the UK from the US as a passenger on March 17. It is understood that Ian is the first British Airways worker to die from coronavirus,
