Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson Hon FRIBA (born 19 June 1964) is a British politician, writer, and former journalist serving as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and Leader of the Conservative Party since 2019. He was Foreign Secretary from 2016 to 2018 and Mayor of London from 2008 to 2016. Johnson was Member of Parliament for Henley from 2001 to 2008 and has been MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip since 2015. Ideologically, Johnson identifies as a one-nation conservative.

Boris Johnson's trip to Delhi this month will still go ahead despite the Indian coronavirus variant and soaring cases in the country, No10 has said.

British officials hope the Prime Minister's visit will kickstart trade talks with India. But plans have already been scaled back and engagements will now take place over just one day.

However, the Government continues to resist calls to place India on its red list of countries from which direct travel is banned.

One No10 source strongly denied suggestions the reason India was being omitted was to avoid jeopardising trade talks. They described the claim as “total and utter bull***t”.
