Prime Minister Boris Johnson has spoken out along with other Government officials lamenting the "damaging" breakaway Super League plans that are set to include six Premier League clubs.
Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham are among 12 teams in Europe backing the movement.
Three clubs from Spain - Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid - and three from Italy - Juventus, Inter Milan and AC Milan - are also involved.
