He was Foreign Secretary from 2016 to 2018 and Mayor of London from 2008 to 2016. Johnson was Member of Parliament for Henley from 2001 to 2008 and has been MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip since 2015. Ideologically, Johnson identifies as a one-nation conservative.

Scottish Government confirms one death and 133 new covid cases overnight

coronavirus in the last 24 hours. The latest figures for Scotland also showed that 133 new cases had been identified overnight.

It brings the death toll since last March – of people who first tested positive for the virus within the previous 28 days – to 7,653.

There are currently 81 people in hospital confirmed to have the virus with 11 being treated in intensive care.The total number of positive cases since the pandemic hit stands at 225,479.

It comes as Boris Johnson is under fire after being accused of telling his aides he would rather let covid "rip" than impose a second national lockdown, sources have claims.
