Bobbie Battista dead: CNN news anchor dies after cervical cancer battle

Bobbie Battista, one of the original CNN Headline News anchors, has died at the age of 67 following a battle with cervical cancer, her family has confirmed.

She died after a four-year battle with the disease. Executive producer at CNN Lisa Mirando shared the news on Twitter, writing that "the CNN family lost a good one today".

Bobbie was one of the original CNN Headline News anchors back when the US network launched in 1981. The popular broadcaster also worked on news programmes such as CNN's Talk-Back Live and CNN International.

She had a long career, first coming onto the scene in 1975 and working for more than 40 years. Bobbie leaves behind her husband John Brimelow, with whom she has a step-daughter.
