Veteran RTÉ reporter Tommie Gorman has announced his retirement after 41 years. Gorman who is currently serving as Northern Editor has been described as ‘the beating heart’ of the station by RTÉ’s Managing Director Jon Williams in a touching tribute on Twitter.

In the announcement, Williams honoured the journalist’s decade-spanning career and spoke of how he had ‘earned the trust of audiences north and south – and of all sides in Northern Ireland, telling their story, sharing his insights, and championing his role as an all-Ireland news organisation.’ Delighted @vincekearney to be next Northern Editor @rte.
