peaceful demonstration in support of asylum seekers in Glasgow have been condemned in the Commons. Chris Stephens MP said there was “no place for far right thuggery” against a peaceful protest by activists campaigning for asylum seekers who have been “refused food in hotels” and have to live on the streets.
The loyalist group called the National Defence League clashed with demonstrators in the city centre under the guise of protecting the Cenotaph from activists.
Six arrests were made by Police Scotland during the clashes. Loyalist groups were slammed for disorder at George Square last weekend when they counter-demonstrated against Black Lives Matter activists.
