Aston Villa fans have trolled Newcastle over their signing of "second fiddle fringe player" Matt Targett.Newcastle signed the 26-year-old on a four-year deal on Wednesday after agreeing a £12million fee with Villa.

It followed an impressive loan spell for the Englishman at St James' Park during the second-half of last season.The Magpies will be hoping for more of the same from Targett, who was outstanding as they climbed out of relegation and finished 11th in the Premier League.

But Villa supporters didn't appear phased by the left-back leaving the club after three years as they mocked their mid-table rivals for splashing out on a "fringe player".Referencing the spending power now at the North East side's disposal following their takeover by a Saudi-led consortium in October, one Villa fan took to Twitter to write: "Newcastle with all those billions yet signing Villa’s second fiddle fringe players, absolutely love to see it."Another cheekily jibed: "Signing our fringe players."The comments successfully riled up several Newcastle fans, with one hitting back: "He finished above you and was better than the player you replaced him with."Another argued: "Villa only have second fiddle players.
