Albion Rovers boss Sandy Clark reckons he has the nucleus of a squad in place after making seven signings in one day. But the Cliftonhill gaffer is still looking to bring in more, ahead of the Lowland League kick-off, which for them will be on August 5 at home to Hearts ‘B’, due to their involvement in the Viaplay Cup group stages.
Rovers travel to Raith Rovers tonight (Tuesday) before visiting Annan Athletic on Saturday, and Clark admits he will use the competition as pre-season training for his young side.
Clark snapped up ex-Queen of the South midfielder Dom McMahon, 22, and 21-year-old former Broomhill winger Alex McCaw. Ex-Gretna 2008 striker Reece Paterson, 20, and defender Conor Duffy, 21, have also come in, as have former Airdrie duo, winger Josh Tran and forward Bright Prince, both 17.
And ex-Dumbarton midfielder Callum Wilson, 19, completes the new signings for now. Clark said: “We’ve had the same group of players in for the past three weeks or so, so it’s guys we’ve looked at closely and they’ve worked hard to try and earn something. “With the budget that we’ve got, I think we’ve done OK. “We’re still a wee bit short, we’ve got a bit to go yet, but we’ve got the nucleus of a half-decent squad, I hope, now.
