Alan Shearer has revealed he asked Sir Alex Ferguson if he could take Manchester United's penalties during failed transfer negotiations.
The former Newcastle striker made the move to his hometown team in 1996 despite interest from United and it has emerged Shearer demanded to replace Eric Cantona as Ferguson's main spot-kick taker as part of the move.
