19 Jul 2020 Norman Hartnell was the legendary couturier who helped to craft The Queen's regal image, and that of her mother before her.
Although Hartnell died in 1979, his legacy has now been revived, thanks to Princess Beatrice's decision to wear one of her grandmother's gowns on her wedding day.
The spectacular jewelled design was worn by Her Majesty on several occasions during the Sixties and is typical of her penchant for full-skirted, delicately embellished looks during that era.
But Hartnell had become a royal favourite as far back as the Thirties, cementing his reputation with thoughtful designs for Queen Elizabeth, wife of King George VI.
