After thirteen tumultuous years at the helm, Mike Ashley’s ownership of Newcastle United appears to be coming to an end. The businessman is said to be close to agreeing a deal to relinquish the club to a Saudi Arabia-backed consortium for a reported £300 million.
Ashley, who purchased the club in 2007, has long been an unpopular figure with the club’s fans, who cite his lack of investment, re-naming of the club’s home and continued reluctance to sell-up among the many reasons they will be happy to see the back of him.
