Despite binge drinking being more common in younger generations, boffins said that young people face higher risks by getting sloshed than their older counterparts.

The study, published in The Lancet, discovered that almost 60% of those who drank harmful amounts of booze were people aged 15 to 39.

People in that age group were warned that alcohol provides no health benefits for them and increases the risk of drinking-related injuries, car accidents, suicides or murders.
