A pioneer for women's football has been awarded an honour from East Ayrshire Council.Depute provost Claire Leitch welcomed Stewarton's Elsie Cook to a council meeting to celebrate the enormous contribution that she has made over the last several decades to the women's game with a civic recognition certificateShe has devoted much of her life to battling for women football players to have the same rights and respect as men.

Elsie made it her mission to expand the game of football for girls and women of all ages after falling in love with football in 1960, when she was 13-years-old and had just seen her first match at Rugby Park.
