Winds in excess of 90mph are expected to batter Scotland over the coming days, forecasters have warned. Experts at the Met Office have issued two ‘danger to life’ weather warnings for gale force winds across the north and west of Scotland.

The first of the warnings will come into force from 9pm on Sunday, and will impact the Highlands, Western Isles and Argyll and Bute.

Overnight wind gusts are expected to pick up at 80 to 85mph, with some areas potentially seeing them exceed 90mph.The Met Office has warned the winds could lead to damaged buildings and injuries from flying debris and large waves.
