Will Smith’s biopic hangs in the balance as both Netflix and Apple+ have reportedly pulled out after the actor slapped Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars.The two streaming giants were originally fighting for rights to host his new biopic, based on his best-selling autobiography Will - however they have both reportedly withdrawn from the race to bring the actor’s story to life.
The news comes after 53-year-old Will stormed the stage at the Oscars and slapped Chris Rock after the host made a joke about wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s shaved head, referring to her as the next G.I Jane.
A source revealed to The Sun: "Netflix and Apple+ have quietly removed their bids for a Will Smith biopic and will instead relocate the funds and develop original ideas from new black actors."They also said that working with Will has become "risky business" and they now plan on working with more "family friendly stars" that include the likes of Michael B Jordan and Mike Epps.Fans of the King Richard star have taken to Twitter to express their outrage over the decision.One user wrote: "I know Will Smith slapped someone, but I am genuinely shocked at how quickly Hollywood is moving to end his career right now.
