Wigan haven't lost all too many games in recent times. In fact, in the last 14 months, they have lost a grand total of five games.
In that period they boast an astonishing win record of 77%. But there's one big, seismic caveat to that, which was once an underlying problem but is now becoming an increasingly alarming issue.
Three of those defeats have been must-win games. Last year they went out with a whimper in the Challenge Cup semi-final to Leeds.
They followed that up with a gutting last-ditch defeat to St Helens in the Grand Final. Similarly, when they needed to win yesterday, in the Challenge Cup quarter-final to Hull FC, they didn't get the job done.
