Fortunately, nutrition expert Lauryn Lax at BreakingMuscle.com outlines the main reasons why your diet isn’t working and how to fix them.A small amount of fat is an essential part of a healthy, balanced diet.Fat is a source of essential fatty acids, which the body cannot make itself.“Diets that exclude or severely limit fat tend to replace all those calories with carbohydrates, which sets you up to ride the blood sugar roller coaster,” says Lax.“Your body is constantly chasing balance between blood sugar and insulin levels, which can in turn impact your cortisol (stress hormone) production.“Cortisol signals your body to store body fat, rather than burn it, and can also lead to increased intake of high-carbohydrate foods.” Lax suggests eating more healthy fats with each meal such as nuts, olive oil or full-fat yogurt to keep energy levels up and “hunger at bay.” Carbs get a bad rep when it comes to weight loss but not eating enough can be counterintuitive.
