A letter signed by Princess Diana saved Martin Bashir when his Panorama interview with her was investigated for the first time.

An investigation by Lord Dyson has now found that the journalist deceived Diana's brother in order secure access to her for the now infamous interview, which aired in 1995.

It's been uncovered that he commissioned fake bank statements that falsely suggested individuals were being paid for keeping the princess under surveillance.

He showed those statements to Diana's brother, Earl Spencer, in order to gain access to his sibling. Lord Dyson found that Bashir acted to deceive Earl Spencer and encourage him to arrange the meeting.
