Wallpaper is back – you can get the look without blowing the budget

It’s particularly popular with the homeowner with an eye on the trends – where there’s a Crittall door and a parquet floor, there will often be a patterned wallpaper, if only in the downstairs loo.
John Lewis is said to have sold enough last year to stretch from Land’s End to John O’Groats.Part of its current popularity is down to a renewed desire, among those who appreciate a pattern, to bring a decorative touch to the home, using skills picked up during the DIY boom of the past couple of years.
In addition, hardly a TV drama has gone by in the past year that hasn’t featured a set where wallpaper plays a starring role; and on social media, where so many of us now get our interior-design inspiration, it naturally looks far more arresting than a bare wall. “We’ve always loved wallpaper,” says interior designer Mary Graham, “but we’re using it a lot more now because clients are asking for it and being braver with it.
