Liverpool’s Carabao Cup victory over Chelsea will do down as one of the most memorable in the tournament's history.Despite the 120 minutes of action failing to yield a single goal, Jurgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel’s side played out a fabulous contest of football, with multiple goals disallowed and a number of chances going begging.
Were it not for the heroic goalkeeping of Caoimhin Kelleher and Edouard Mendy, the contest could have finished as a 5-5 draw. However, the net did not bulge, and the contest was sent to an immense penalty shootout which saw Kepa Arrizabalaga come off the Chelsea bench to miss the vital spot-kick.
And there was one aspect of the shootout which really caught the attention of Arsenal legend Ian Wright."I saw stuff in the Carabao Cup that was pure crazy," Wright said in his 'Wrighty's house podcast'. "With the Virgil penalty - to see Arrizabalaga standing in the corner and Virgil still put it in that corner - and then it's the way that Virgil looked at him afterwards."He gave him such a look of disdain, it was horrible.
Virgil's horrible!"Kepa tried to play mind games with the imperious Dutch defender by standing closer to his right post. What do you think Liverpool will achieve this season?
