The Victorian Pride Centre – Australia’s first and world’s second multi-purpose LGBTIQI centre – is heading towards a year-end opening. On Tuesday, Victorian Pride Centre Board Chair Jude Munro, Hansen Yuncken director Richard Hansen and the construction team took part in the ‘Topping Out’ ceremony to mark the completion of the structure.
In the construction industry ‘Topping Out’ is the tradition of placing the last beam, these days it is the placing of a tree, signifying completion of the construction of the outer structure of the building.
At the ceremony, a native Acacia Blackwood and Coastal Banksia indigenous to the Port Phillip area were planted on the rooftop terrace.
