Northants Live is reporting that it was completing an “unknown mission” related to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The Lockheed U-2 plan is thought to be one of America's best, and most well-known spy planes, as it can work day and night, at high altitude and provide intelligence gathering in all weathers – despite being 65 years old.It is being rumoured that the plane was being used during Arctic training in Norway, as Operation Cold Response takes hold.Around 30,000 NATO troops are known to be practising drills in the Arctic, and the U-2 plane can be used to guide troops in such conditions. This was neither confirmed nor denied by NATO.A spokesman for the organisation said: “Cold Response deals with a fictional scenario where Norway is attacked and NATO's collective defence clause, Article 5, is invoked.“Exercise Brilliant Jump 2022, the certification of NATO's Very High Readiness Joint Task Force, is linked to Cold Response. “NATO Allies are transparent in their exercises and respect their international commitments.

Observers from all members of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe have been invited to Cold Response, but Russia declined the invitation.
