Ukraine is reportedly using sophisticated facial recognition technology to identify the bodies of Russian soldiers and inform their families of the deaths over social media.Reuters reports that Ukraine's Ministry of Defence has begun using technology from Clearview AI, an American artificial intelligence company. Its software is able to find the social media accounts of dead soldiers through facial recognition, which authorities are then using to contact relatives and arrange for the bodies to be collected. "As a courtesy to the mothers of those soldiers, we are disseminating this information over social media to at least let families know that they they've lost their sons and to then enable them to come to collect their bodies," said Ukraine's vice prime minister, Mykhailo Fedorov.

Fedorov didn't confirm the number of bodies that have been identified using the software but said a high percentage had been claimed by the families.A Kremlin spokesperson said: "We have no knowledge of this.

There are too many fakes coming out of Ukraine."The Ukrainian military has claimed that more than 15,000 Russian soldiers have been killed since the start of the invasion last month.Putin's government has been roundly criticised domestically by domestic activists for failing to provide clear information about dead soldiers to their families. In an open letter published in Russia, activists said these families "find themselves in an information vacuum"."There is no official updated information about the dead, about the transfer of bodies to families, about prisoners, about their release or exchange.
