UK to be smashed by snow and -5C deep freeze in Arctic plume coming one day next week

winter spell on one day next week, according to weather forecasts.Data from independent forecaster WX Charts shows temperatures diving to chilly lows of -4C to -5C in Scotland, northern England and Wales next Thursday (March 10).Snow will also sweep in from the North Sea to Northern Ireland, Scotland and the north of England overnight on Wednesday March 9, with the heaviest falls of 2cm per hour anticipated just south of the Anglo-Scottish border.A second wave of the white stuff in the early hours of Friday will also catch some parts of southeast England and East Anglia.It comes as milder conditions at the weekend are expected to be replaced by another period of unsettled weather as the week progresses.

The Met Office's long range weather forecast for Monday March 7 to Wednesday March 16 reads: "As we move through the period there will be an increasing likelihood of spells of rain, potentially preceded by snow, arriving from the west."Winds will likely strengthen through midweek with an increasing likelihood of coastal gales.

Rather cool or even cold across much of the UK, but temperatures may begin to recover to nearer normal from the west later in the period."In the meantime today (March 3) is expected to be clear in many areas, with cloud gradually moving east towards northern areas.

The government recently announced that 'Emergency Alerts' will now be automatically broadcast on UK phones if there is 'danger to life' from a major weather event or other hazard.
