There will be days in June when Britain has no coronavirus deaths at all, according to a leading Oxford University scientist.

Yesterday, the total number of deaths across the UK since the pandemic topped 35,000. The latest figures show an increase by 545 across hospitals and care homes - the largest in a week, however the death toll continues to trend downward overall.

And commenting on the data, Professor Carl Heneghan, from from the Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine at Oxford University, told The Sun late next month could see days with zero fatalities in the UK.

He said: "I think by the end of June we'll be looking at the data and finding it difficult to find people with this illness, if the current trends continue in the deaths. "
