TUI will be axing 186 flights from Manchester Airport as thousands of passengers affected will be notified by the end of the day (May 31), said the carrier.

The cuts are a bid to manage staff shortages and 'ongoing disruption' that have also led to baggage problems and delays.TUI said customers due to fly over the 'coming days' were notified last night, while the rest will be informed 'later today' by text or email.Manchester Airport is understood to be the only hub in the country impacted by TUI's raft of cancellations, cutting six flights a day, 186 flights in total, between May 31 and June 30.

TUI has declined to answer a request by our sister site Manchester Evening News for a list of services impacted. The cancellations will ruin the plans of around 34,000 holidaymakers, adding to the growing number of fliers whose travels have been scrapped.

The airline said all other airports in the UK are planned to operate as normal.Meanwhile, the airport blamed staff shortages in both the TUI and Swissport operations, a problem which they say is blighting the travel industry more widely. The hub issued a candid apology over its staffing crisis just last month. The decision comes amid ongoing tales from travellers of missing luggage, holidays being cancelled by text and mammoth flight delays.
