TransPennine Express has warned passengers not to travel by train this Bank Holiday weekend as there will be severe disruption to services because of a strike by conductors.
Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union will walk out on Saturday and Sunday in a long-running dispute over pay. TPE urged people not to travel, saying it will be running an amended timetable on both days, with a very limited service available for those making essential journeys.
People heading to events including Jubilee celebrations over the weekend were urged to seek alternative transport. TPE is urging anyone travelling between Liverpool/Manchester and Glasgow/Edinburgh via Preston and Carlisle to 'seek alternative transport or travel on Friday or Monday instead'.
