Dozens of Tory MPs have written to Boris Johnson warning him not to leave the north in “indefinite lockdown”. The Conservatives in northern English seats sent the grim warning shot as MPs approve a month-long shutdown from midnight.
MPs overwhelmingly backed the ban on pubs, hairdressers, gatherings and non-essential travel despite 34 Tory rebels. But around 30 northern Tory MPs - who are separate to the rebels - warned what will happen when the lockdown ends.
Boris Johnson has said he wants it to end on December 2, but has not ruled out trying to extend it. And the PM has admitted some areas could go straight back into Tier 3 restrictions when lockdown does come to a close.
