A 'Save Rochdale Branch Canal' online petition now has nearly 2,000 signatures, but the group fears the town's council chiefs are not on board with the ambitious idea.

The quarter-mile stretch which forks left at Lock 50 of the Rochdale Canal is mostly filled in, but Steven Parker, one of more than 1,500 members of the Rochdale Branch Canal Facebook group, says all of the stonework dating back to the 1790s is still intact.
