A thug who battered his girlfriend in a cocaine-fuelled rampage has died behind bars. Dad-of-five Ronnie Gaunt, 38, was caged for three and a half years in September 2019 after beating his then-partner unconscious at a luxury Hilton hotel.

The Liverpool Echo told how the ex-plumber was found dead at HMP Risley early this morning. A Ministry of Justice spokesman said: "HMP Risley prisoner Ronnie Gaunt died in custody on April 15, 2020, and our condolences are with his family and friends. “As with all deaths in custody, there will be an independent investigation by the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman.” Gaunt was sent to the Warrington prison after pleading guilty to the attack on his partner.
