Lee Cunliffe, 35, was staying at a hotel in Manchester in early January with his partner who is the mother of his four-year-old daughter.
The couple had a fight while shopping at the local mall on January 4, but agreed to meet up at their accommodation later that evening, Manchester Evening News reports.
At 12.45am, Cunliffe asked staff if he could use a charger to phone his girlfriend. Hotel employees became concerned after hearing him speak "very aggressively" to her on the phone.
