The Who’s Keith Moon and John Entwistle were once interviewed by ­police who thought they had kidnapped a woman. The notorious wild men had driven around Newcastle with a pair of inflatable legs sticking out of Entwistle’s Bentley.

Drummer Moon was making “girlie noises” out of the window. And after a concert that night both were visited by officers. The stunt was revealed in previously unpublished notes late bass player Entwistle made for his memoirs.

He wrote: “Visited a joke shop with Moon. “We buy a pair of blow-up women’s legs and fit with a pair of fishnet stockings. “We drive through Newcastle with legs out the window of the Bentley with Keith making screaming girlie noises. “I notice a policewoman on a walkie-talkie. “After the show
