The Simpsons has recast the voice of Carl Carlson with black actor Alex Desert replacing Hank Azaria. Carl is known to The Simpsons fans as Homer Simpson's co-worker at the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant which is owned by the scheming Mr Burns.
Hank Azaria had voiced the character of Carl on the show from 1989 onwards. However, following changing political climates and Black Lives Matter protests earlier this year, the show announced that white actors would no longer be voicing non-white characters such as Carl and Apu Nahasapeemapetilon.
In June the showrunners of The Simpsons released a statement which read: "Moving forward, The Simpsons will no longer have white actors voice non-white characters." Now it has been confirmed that Carl
