The sector was left out in the cold when hairdressers were given the green light to reopen on July 4, with thousands of businesses left furious at the government’s last-minute decision to separate the reopening of the two sectors.
Am I over the moon that the beauty industry can get back to work now? Absolutely. But I am still treading a thin line between being baffled and outraged as to why it took the government so excruciatingly long to announce a date.
It’s not an industry to be sniffed at, either: beauty is worth almost £30bn to the UK economy, which is more than the car manufacturing industry.
