New rules on face coverings will come into force in England from Friday. Boris Johnson announced a series of so-called 'Plan B' measures to try and curb the spread of the new highly tranmissible Omicron variant of coronavirus - including extending the current rules around face masks.
People have already been ordered to wear face coverings in shops, shopping centres, banks, salons and on public transport - unless they are exempt. READ MORE: The places where you are exempt from wearing a face covering But, from Friday, December 10, face coverings will be mandatory in further public settings in England.
It means that masks will need to be worn in the majority of indoor venues. Some places, such as hospitality settings, will be exempt.
