Tesco shoppers have been warned of a 'cruel' scam after an innocent gran was conned out of a huge sum.Lola Sledmere, 88, lost £1,000 because of the scam and now people are being warned to look out for it.Scamming is a problem at the best of times, but people in the UK are currently facing a cost of living crisis in which rising inflation, tax rises and a whopping hike in their energy bills.Water and mobile phone bills have also been affected as the price of food on shelves goes up.It means that when scammers target everyday working people, the consequences may be felt a lot more severely by supermarket-goers.

It is no wonder Brits are reported to be less trusting.So what is the con and how did Lola - who was "scarred for life" - fall victim to the scammers?Lola Sledmere was scammed by three thieves as she went to return her trolley at a Tesco superstore in Amersham, Buckinghamshire.A total of £1,000 was taken out at various cash points over the next few days after her card was stolen.It is believed they worked as a trio to distract Lola as she returned her trolley, with one distracting her while another criminal stole her bank card from her car.

CCTV footage revealed that another man loitered as Lola entered her pin at the checkout.Lola told the Express: "I have been told this activity is rife, particularly in some supermarket car parks in and around London."Of course, it has impacted me financially too.

I am a pensioner. I have a state pension but I'm not well off at all."I live alone, so of course it is going to affect me financially.
