Tesco shoppers are mourning the tragic death of a celebrity cat who was hit by a car. Molly, a nine-year-old feline from Yate in South Gloucestershire, rose to fame in the area after weekly visits to a Tesco Extra where she was often found taking refuge in trolleys.

Her owner Fiona, 41, was forced to set up a Facebook page for Molly after she began appearing on lost-and-found posts, to reassure people that she had a home and must not be fed.Molly amassed over 4,000 Facebook followers, many of those not even from Yate and people have been leaving heartfelt tributes online, reports BristolLive.

Fiona said: "The day that I dreaded has come and it is with tears streaming I have to inform you all that Molly was involved in an accident and despite the best efforts of all she did not survive and passed away."She explained that, during the pandemic lockdowns, Molly’s appearances inside the supermarket made customers happy. "I know how much joy she brought to everyone, which was why I never clipped her wings.

I am a great believer that cats choose the way they want to live their lives and Molly did not like being confined," she added.
