Primal Scream keyboardist Martin Duffy have paid tribute to the musician, and suggested that his death followed suffering from a lack of finances after parting ways with the band.It was announced in December that the musician had died aged 55 after suffering multiple skull fractures.Now, six months on, an inquest in Brighton on Tuesday (June 6) heard that the keyboardist — who was a member of Primal Scream for over three decades — was struggling financially at the time before his death, with his family have suggesting that this was partly due to the lack of financial support.“Dad had played on every Primal Scream album – had songwriting on at least two – but still the band chose not to offer him the opportunity to get his share, at a time they knew he really needed financial help,” read a statement from his 19-year old son Louie, who also alleged that his father was cut out of a £5million deal to sell part of the band’s back catalogue (via The Argus).“He wasn’t consulted or even told about it,” he added. “I remember dad telling [frontman] Bobby Gillespie on the phone that he was having to sign on for benefits to get by as he had no savings but the band offered no support either emotional or financial.”The inquest also heard that Duffy was diagnosed with prostate cancer during lockdown and was battling an alcohol addiction.

Primal Scream have collaborated with Aida Celtic FC and fashion brand A Number Of Names* (Anon*) for a new shirt to help fundraise for the refugee camp football team.The Scottish band have unveiled the “Palestinadelica” shirt, the title of which is a play on the group’s third album ‘Screamadelica‘ (1991) and Palestine, the territory where the Aida Refugee Camp is based.All proceeds from the sale of the shirt, which features the ‘Screamadelica’ artwork on the right hand shoulder and chest, will go towards helping train Aida Celtic footballers as well as provide sportswear for the refugees in Bethlehem. Primal Scream have sold a 50 per cent stake of their song rights to BMG, along with their neighbouring rights.The band’s frontman Bobby Gillespie, guitarist Andrew Innes and the estate of late bassist, guitarist and keyboardist Robert Young, have all struck a deal with the publishing arm of the label.BMG now owns 50 per cent of the three musicians’ song rights to the entire Primal Scream back catalogue, from their 1987 debut ‘Screamadelica’ to their latest album, 2016’s ‘Chaosmosis’. The label has also purchased the trio’s neighbouring rights – the public performance right that is paid to performing artists, rather than a song’s writers or publishers – in full.“Primal Scream are one of the most influential bands of the past 30 years with a cultural resonance which continues today,” Alistair Norbury, BMG’s president of repertoire and marketing UK, said.

Primal Scream and New Order singer Denise Johnson are being auctioned off by the Music Venue Trust (MVT).Johnson died suddenly in July 2020 at the age of 56 from natural causes.At her funeral last summer, Johnson’s family asked for donations in lieu of flowers to be made to MVT, a cause that the singer had supported vocally on her social media accounts.
