Universities could be at risk of legal action for the violation of human rights over the lockdown of students. A leading law academic has warned there is ‘scope for legal intervention’ following the strict rules many new students have been placed under following outbreaks of coronavirus in their halls of residence.
Dr Nick McKerrell suggested there was room for legal action after students were threatened with expulsion if they did not follow the rules.
The senior law lecturer at Glasgow Caledonian University said a student-only lockdown verged on being an 'arbitrary use of power'.
