Strictly Come Dancing judge, 41, said German dancer Timo Kulczak, 45, would control her finances throughout their marriage, even giving her an allowance from her earnings on TV.
At times, her ex-husband would even decide what she would eat, Mabuse writes in her new book 'Finding My Own Rhythm'. "Timo and I went to Thailand, and I told him, once and for all, that I was leaving," the dancer writes. "We fought every day, but I refused to back down this time."Motsi had moved to Germany from South Africa to be with Timo when she was just 18.
However, over time she realised that she was not in love with him anymore. "I wasn’t in love with Timo any more — and I hadn’t been for a while," she recalled, adding that hearing her friends "talk about dating and sex" led to her feeling like she was missing out on something.After a period of separation, Timo and Motsi divorced in 2014, though she insists that they remain friends to this day.
Motsi is now happily married to her new dance partner, Evgenij Voznyu. She lives with her husband and four-year-old daughter in German, where the pair run a dance school together when Motsi isn't involved with Strictly Come Dancing.
