When Spike Lee was asked by TIFF to head to the festival, he was fully aware on what date he’d be there; that being Sept. 11.
And so, he did the right thing. “It didn’t take me long to think about what I wanted to show,” said the Oscar-winning BlacKkKlansman filmmaker.
And in a proper reflection on the day when the New York City World Trade Center Towers were destroyed in a terrorist attack, Lee decided to show off to the crowd here at the Glenn Gould Theatre, an episode of his 2021 HBO docuseries, NYC Epicenters 9/11 to 2021 ½, which dives into the similarities and differences between Sept.
11 and the Covid crisis in New York City. The episode begins with a Port Authority video about the construction of the edifice in the late 1960s; a placard reading shortly thereafter that 60 people died during the building of the 1,360-plus foot towers.
