'Special' 50p coin sells for £225 on eBay – and there's thousands out there

The coins originally sold for £1.09, but they're worth a lot more with some going for around £286 on eBay, reports the Liverpool Echo.One seller received a huge £225.01, after attracting 17 different bids, with the sale price jumping considerably when it started at £9.99.It was sold on June 19 and listed as a "rare uncirculated Blue Peter winner's edition 50p coin pack 2009".

And if you find one of these coins, you should check the year on it. The second edition of the coin was minted 2011. Around 2.2million coins were made and released into circulation meaning these will not be worth nearly as much.
