Charles, Prince of Wales (Charles Philip Arthur George; born 14 November 1948) is the heir apparent to the British throne as the eldest son of Elizabeth II. He has been Duke of Cornwall and Duke of Rothesay since 1952, and he is the oldest and longest-serving heir apparent in British history.
He is also the longest-serving Prince of Wales, having held that title since 1958. Charles was born at Buckingham Palace as the first grandchild of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. He was educated at Cheam and Gordonstoun schools, which his father, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, had attended as a child. Charles also spent a year at the Timbertop campus of Geelong Grammar School in Victoria, Australia.
Prince Charles and Camilla’s wedding anniversary will have a sombre mood with what should be a day of celebration being shared with the one-year anniversary of the death of the Duke of Edinburgh.Prince Philip sadly passed away last year on what was the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall’s 16th wedding anniversary on April 9.The Queen’s beloved husband passed away at Windsor Castle at the age of 99.Charles spoke to the media about his father just a day after his father’s passing, stating his thanks to the people who paid tribute to his “dear papa”.The Prince of Wales said: "My father for I suppose, the last 70 years, has given the most remarkable, devoted service to the Queen, to my family, and to the country and also to the whole of the Commonwealth."And as you can imagine, my family and I miss my father enormously - he was a much-loved and appreciated figure, and apart from anything else, I can imagine he'd be so deeply touched by the number of other people here and elsewhere around the world in the Commonwealth who also, I think, share our loss and our sorrow."And my dear Papa was a very special person who I think, above all else, would have been amazed by the reaction and the touching things that are being said about him."The Royal Family came together last month to pay tribute to Philip with a memorial service at Westminster Abbey, which was also attended by the late his family, charities and young people who had been helped through The Duke of Edinburgh's Award.Following the huge public event, which was broadcast on the BBC, Her Majesty is expecting to remember her husband in private this weekend.Today (Saturday, April 9) marks the 17th wedding anniversary of Camilla and Charles, who tied the knot at Guildhall.
